I'm not much of a horror gamer (scaredy cat am I).....I agree with you all on the fatal frame/project zero, I only played the demo but thought the idea was different enough to make me want to give it a go. The fear of not knowing what is around you untill you bring that camera up to your viewpoint, and the useless feeling of not really having a sturdy weapon you can bash things with makes the game intense.

The one game that had me on edge the entire time was the first Condemned, very realistic looking graphics (for the time anyway) brilliantly twisted story with the voice acting of Greg Grunberg carring you through.
I loved the fact that the enemys would race past in the corners of your view, making you suspicious and wondering when and where they were going to pop out at you! (which they managed to do everytime) Also the way that you fought with them, the screen moving with every hit engrossed me even more.

Was playing MAG again last night for a couple of hours with a few [older] Americans who really worked together and even though they insisted on calling me 'the noob' they got my back because I was constantly watching theirs with a sniper rifle. Lots of team talk and some great tactical moments. We kicked some serious butt. Yup, MAG really works well when you work together, and you will own pretty much everyone else who runs around like a headless chicken. While I still believe it's not for everyone, MAG is now MY choice of online FPS and as such Modern Warfare 2 will now be going toward helping my Xbox 360 fund.

Fatal Frame/Project Zero is, for my money, the scariest video game of all time. So scary in fact that I've never finished it, it was just too much. And that's why it's also brilliant.

And I'm with Pogo. Turn off all the lights and plug in the headphones. I had a few brown trouser moments playing Doom 3 in that enviroment.

I also found some choice moments in PC's Doom3 that made me feel bicycle clip time was underway. Although I agree with manny that sound is a huge part it's also worth noting art dept. Stuff too, anyone notice the Ishimura in dead space looks like a ribcage? There are slot of subtle 'wrongs' art wise in the best of these games

There are many haters of the games industry out there and all are desperate to prove our hobby to be the life threatening, anti-social, murder training wastes of space they truly believe them to be. To bad then that in their feeble endeavours to finally prove that video games are turning us all into psychopathic killers they've only gently touched on one very real and sometimes negative aspect of video gaming-Addiction.

I can already feel the frown of my fellow gamers with that last admission-gamers don’t like having their hobby attacked, especially by other gamers.

Fact is though video games ARE addictive and on rare occasions, particularly where MMOs are concerned, they can get a little much. A friend of mine, (whose name I won’t mention here), was so addicted to Star Wars Online that he once faked a stomach bug on Christmas Day at his mothers so he could head home and play the game. Funny now, but looking at back at it was pretty worrying. Having said that there are some who would compare game addiction to that of alcohol and drug addiction, but this is nonsense as I’m quite confident any reasonable individual can walk away from World of Warcraft, or even Final Fantasy XIII, far easier than a serious drinking or cocaine habit.
Just as well then that the many positive aspects of video gaming outweigh the negative, it’s just a case of moderation and thankfully our industry recognises the value of that. Lets face it, what fun would WOW be if you didn’t want to return to Azeroth? Just remember to have something to eat every now and again…

Gave it a go but its not for me I dont think, found the physics rather loose and graphics boring. But that said tbh I am still interested in the shear size of the multiplayer, closest thing I have experienced was the old Battlefield games (1942 / Vietnam)

Ahh Championship Manager. I've never been into them myself, but have heard countless tales of life, relationships, and money lost to them. You've summed it up- they truly are the marmite of the industry.

My gaming addiction has to be, without doubt, the marmite of gaming - Football Manager (and it's original guise Chapionship Manager.)
I still partly blame this addictive pile of mathematics and algorithms for a my abject failure to pass my degree, or ever get a proper website up and running. (go on, click the weblink, you will most likely get a blog that hasn't been update in a month or a 404.) But it has also provided me with a greater appriciation of tactics, who plays for who, and a profound knowledge of obscure 17 year old wingers from the Norwegian second division, (oh my joy when Morton Gamst Pederson turned out to be real, and despair when Italian wonderkid Mascio turned out to be a piece of test data that had slipped through the 2008 beta)
But it has most importantly filled the boring moments, ie. something to do whilst listening to Jeff Stelling et al on a Saturday afternoon.

This is a game that will constantly be installed on my PC thoughout my coming years, as will it unfortunate stable buddy, the comment "I told you while you were playing that stupid football game" that also haunts every FIFA and PES aficiando alike.

(Note to self: Must buy games other than football games)

As I see it the biggest problem, (what with only a few dominant publishers and their respective devlopment teams being able to ride the waves of the current ecenomic downturn with relative ease), is that outside of downloadable titles creativity is being quashed in favour of proven yearly franchises. Not a good place to be.

It's a really interesting situation. One AAA title can see a studio have the reputation and cashflow that just continues to grow, yet with the cost of innovation for the smaller studios only escalating; it certainly does feel the big hitters are the only way to go.
