Awesome. But Fake.

I love box art, I love how when done well it gives you feelings of desire. I’ve always been a fan of Fan Art and Concepts that people throw out there to see if folk like us will believe its the ‘real deal’. Usually its a shiny product with an apple logo slapped on, ah how we have all been fooled…

While looking into Fan Gaming box art I stumbled across a website called VGBoxArt. Its an amazing place to loose a few hours, I would recommend digging into their ‘Hall of Fame‘ where all the best works are published. Naturally there is a lot of tosh that goes with it but when talented people set their mind to creating a fan made box, sometimes the results are stunning.

Here are a few of my favourites from spending the morning gulping down Oolong herbal tea and scrolling through hundreds of screens and box concepts… love it!

Often simple, often nothing more than unused concept art, but I do feel that sometimes the best covers / art are ditched for a more commercially acceptable (and boring) versions, its a fair cop, I mean Games companies need sales but if the games good it will sell anyway, why not have a bit of fun with it.

I was thinking about designing my own concept, but i have no idea on the title to choose or even if it will be any good, perhaps i’ll give it a go next time I get snowed in!
